HONEY, Did you know? The health benefits of the concoction—which contains vitamin c and the antioxidant benefits of tea—are known and well documented. However, honey alone has proven an effective treatment for coughs.
We are entering the time of year when we see an increase in influenza (flu) and other respiratory viruses at school. Flu is a contagious illness that infects the nose, throat, and lungs and can be dangerous for children. It is spread by droplets made when someone with the flu coughs, sneezes or talks and the droplets land in the mouth or nose of people nearby. It can also spread by touching something that has the virus on it and then touching your mouth, eyes or nose. We take the health of our students seriously and work very hard to keep these viruses from spreading by cleaning the school environment. We need your help, please be on the lookout for Flu and cold symptoms in your child.
Please keep your child home from school, daycare, athletics and other activities in order to rest and recover if they are experiencing symptoms of the flu and help prevent the spread of this illness. People with the flu can infect others from 1 day before symptoms to up to 5 to 7 days after they become ill. Keep your child home and away from others until symptoms improve and they have remained fever free for at least 24 hours, without the use of a fever-reducing medication (Fever is 100F (37.8 C) or higher.
For more information see your child’s school website under Parents>Nurses Clinic>Flu Information for detailed information.
