This is quick share about SEL and C.L.A.S.S. Thank you to Carey Ridge Elementary School for highlighting both topics last week in the Friday newsletter, the Carey Express. Tip: Your weekly newsletters are an excellent resource for tips and highlights each week.
Social-Emotional Learning
There is a current movement in education called SEL or Social-Emotional Learning. It has proven to prime the brain for learning and is beneficial in promoting positive relationships among adults and students.
WWS is committed to implementing SEL in our district and has included SEL into our Continuous Growth Plan right along with Reading and Math. The district has opted to use the model of C.L.A.S.S. to help us reach our academic and SEL goals.
C.L.A.S.S.
C.L.A.S.S. stands for Connected Learning Assures Successful Students and is an approach to creating a positive and effective learning environment using specific social-emotional learning competencies. It is a systems approach to teaching and learning that combines academics and character development. The teachers will be using Circle Uptime, Hallway Greetings, teaching our Building Wide and Classroom Procedures, and using Brain Breaks and Mindfulness to help our kids center and be ready to learn every day.
Life Goals: “Do the right thing, Treat people right.”
